So far, I feel inspired by this class and I appreciate the intimate structure. Resumes and cover letters have intimidated me for years, because I was never actually taught anything about them in school. So, to me, having the opportunity to see examples of resumes and to talk about the pros and cons of each really helped me begin the internship search process. I'm feeling a lot better about where things are going, and it feels like I'm on the right track.
I've started applying to some places but haven't heard anything yet. I'm very interested in working at a firm or a publishing company, but I'm also trying to stay open to many different types of places that may need my help right now. I will continue to apply to places this week.
I'm very excited to start creating a brand for myself. It's something I feel like I've put off working on for a while, because it just wasn't a priority. But now I realize how important my own personal brand will be when I graduate and that now is the perfect time to practice what I've learned in class and create that brand.

1st week.
During the first week of the semester, I decided to drop the Spanish minor I was working on to focus more on my major, New Media. If I'm being honest with myself, I was struggling with the feeling that I haven't gotten as far as I would have liked to career-wise at this point in my education. With only a year to finish school after this current semester, it feels as though I'm running out of time before I enter the "real world," and to be completely honest, the thought terrifies me. I feel slightly unprepared and very inexperienced.
I know that design in my passion. I know this field of work is a perfect match for me. But I'm not sure specifically what I'd like to actually do. I love working with 2D layouts of almost any kind. I find great joy in combining typography with photography, and working on flyers, web pages, blog layouts, and overall branding is where I feel most comfortable and inspired.
For the first two years of college, I felt very overwhelmed by how many different types of jobs the department of New Media opens up for a creative like me. However, I now find that the seemingly endless opportunities are incredibly exciting. I may not be sure where exactly to start, but I'm looking forward to getting my feet wet and picking up a few new skills to broaden my horizons and carry me further in my career.
